Having owned and still owning Bs both with and without OD, I can say with
absolute certainty that regardless of engine wear or gas mileage
considerations, the OD is one of the best piece-of-mind additions you can
make. The simple reduction in noise and chassis buzz is worth every penny.
The ability to cruise comfortably at 75-80 MPH doesn't hurt either.
BTW, I am loathe to ever disagree with John Twist on anything, but on the OD
issue where wear and mileage is concerned, I'm sad to say but I must. Simple
mathematics and physics, as well as personal experience bear witness to a
contradictory opinion. IMHO, YMMV, ODISBETTER.
