MGA Rack Dampers

Any advice on steering rack dampers for an MGA?  DPO (that would be me several
years ago) religously applied " the recommended grease" every 10,000 miles,
only to find out years later the recommended grease was gear oil.  As a
result, one damper is worn through. The spring is going to be the damper soon.
Have a replacement, but no instructions.  Just install and tighten down the
damper housing?
