Listers,
I had a very pleasant experience last Friday regarding a problem alternator
on one of my non-British cars. When my parts supplier didn't have the
right alternator in stock, he referred me to his supplier of rebuilds.
Instead od spending $125 to $175 + core for a rebulit of unknown origin, he
offered to rebuild mine for between $50 and $100 dollars depending on what
it needed. I recieved the unit back with new brushes, a new voltage
regulator and a turned contact ring (I don't think they're called
commutators) for $50. The best part is I got it back in under an hour and a
half and I have my original Bosch (spelled E-X-S-P-E-N-S-I-V-E) part.
The owners name is Jeff Berg and he is really super on service. He says he
can do British stuff too, and does so for many professional restorers. If
you want to give him a try, his business is called RITE-WAY ELECTRIC, 261
Sixth St. San Francisco, CA. 94103. (415) 882-4444 or (800) 732-8863
His card lists Starters, Alternators and DC Motors.
I have no interest, financial or otherwise in this business, just want to
pass along a good experience and a potential good contact.
YMMV.
