Robert asked at some time in the past:

Probably a poor ground connection somewhere, caused by the rust bug.
Take a long (15ft) wire and strip about 1 inch of insulation at each side.
For testing, temporarily run this wire from the ground side of the lamp
holder to the negative battery pole
(provided, of course, you have a negative earth car...) and try again.
First at the rear light assembly, then at the front flasher.
The rear one is the most likely one to have a ground problem.
If so, it will go largely unnoticed because the brake light fimalents will
act as a return path
but the voltage drop may be just enough to cause the problem that you describe.
