I like this thread!!
1-Go up Hwy 14 from LA get off on Rosamond Bl go west past Willow
springs race way, sometimes they are racing vintage cars,go past to
willowsprings/Tehachapi road turn north and climb the road up from the
desert to tehachapi going past the windmills, these are the big
generating windmills and they really sound neat when they are turning.
After getting into the valley turn west on highline road and go past the
glider airport,go down to Tucker road turn right,go to Valley bl turn
left to Woodford /Tehachapi road and follow it down out of the valley
through some nice twisties make sure you stop at "The Loop"this is where
a train will cross over itself it is a real piece of railroad history.
When you get to the bottom go west on Hwy 58 for a few miles and get off
at Caliente you can stop here and get a killer bacon cheeseburger at the
cafe here. From here go north to Lake Isabella about 40 miles north this
is a nice twisty road through the rolling foothills covered with oak
trees just be careful of range cattle After arriving at Lake Isabella
you can drive around the lake or turn west and go down to Bakersfield
and return to LA via Hwy99,or you can go east from the lake to hwy 14
near Ridgecrest if you go back this way stop at Redrock canyon and look
at the erroded pink cliffs. From here you go through Mojave and back
through Lancaster(where I live)and back to LA.This is a nice all day
drive just don't go in the middle of summer!BTW right now we are having
a lot of golden poppies to get there turn off hwy 14 in lancaster at Ave
I and go west to the poppy preserve,Elnino is giving us a good year
