hmmm...I'm no math whiz, but I believe 4 litres pretty much equals one US
gal., therefore, at 8 mi. per litre, times 4,  they're getting 32 mpg.
(which is what I'm getting in my '75B...at $2.08 Cdn/US gal.)

In three weeks she's coming out of the garage, even if it IS snowing! :)
