Simply put.  The alloy hood is more prone to "mechanic dent".  Where the 
mechanic puts too much force on the top surface of the hood when 
closing.  If you use a self triggering hood stay, it will self trigger 
on a windy day when you are checking your oil.  If the hood is used and 
comes off a 70-72 recessed grille car it may no longer have enough crown 
to clear the flush mount c/b grille.  The alloy hood has no other 
significant drawbacks except for perhaps attracting cows.
