I'll add my $.02 to continue this off topic discussion.
I remember sometime in the late 70's/early 80's there was some noise
made by a group that wanted the option of not getting a radio with their
car. This was not about the low end models, but being able to have the
dealer remove the high end radio that came with a high end model and
subtract the price of the radio from the car's selling price. This was
so that the new owner could install an aftermarket unit without having
to pay for one he was not going to use and had better performance, that
the OE unit. I do not rememer what the final resolution to that issue
was.
To add some LBC content: what radio setups do the list member have?
Any recommendations? My '75 has a cheap Kraco casette unit, with 4"
door speakers and 6x9" amplified speakers (out of a Chrysler minivan! -
not mine though!) in cut-outs (ouch!) rear bulkhead. It is not working
at the present since the wires to the front speakers have been cut by
the opening/closing of the door, and the rears have blown the amps. I
plan on removing the whole thing, putting a blanking plate in place of
the radio, and just listening to the engine and the road while I drive!
My wife would like to have some music though, so I might have to
investigate a replacement system.
