In Connecticut spring time is apparently here - in the 50s and bright
sunshine.
Got quite a lot done this weekend, i couldnt get the 69 on a lift as i
had hoped
since too many people having oil changes yesterday - inconsiderate sods!
but i did get the head pulled on the spare engine.......not a pretty
sight!
I knew it was a crap shoot when i got it but the thing is in fairly dire
need -
looked like a carbon mine! - the tops of the pistons are totally coked up
and there is surface rust in the bores - the head is worse!! - several
badly pitted valves and
all the seats are goners - this is not a job for just now!! .... it was
shuffled off to a corner - it should feel at home, it has spent more of
its life in a corner than in a car!!

Next was a bit of rough sanding on the 69 - i have been avoiding removing
too much
since i use the car quite a bit but the good weather and the wish to try
and do it properly got the better of me! - off with the front bumper and
grille, then the front valance, ground off and sanded the flange then a
bit of 'extend" and finally a primer.
Ipicked up a new valance last week at Norristown but it wont go on until
the paint is done,
The grille is surprisingly straight, no dents or dings but it has the
usual problem of a patina of tiny stone chips - looks like shot blasting.
Has anyone ever found a way to restore this? -ive tried in the past to no
avail and generally bought new ones but this one is so straight it seems
a shame to consign it to a parts bin (plus im skint and would rather keep
it!!) - can aluminium be chromed?

Ok - its time to come back to reality and pay the monthly bills -Damn i
hate the first of the month!!
