Phil Raby,
Dave Allen-great! The mention of his name brings back a lot of Saturday
nights with Dave Allen. Barbara and I have often wondered why his old
shows aren't rerun here. Perhaps because they were so politically
incorrect. He could tell a story as no one else and every little skit was
a masterful production. Alexi Sales gave us some wonderful but
frequently painful laughs as well.
Phil, you ask "what's "Mystery". It's the umbrella PBS program ,now
hosted by the delectible Diana Rigg, which features British mysteries.
Over the years, we can remember among many others: Jeremy Brett as the
best Sherlock Holmes we've seen, Inspector Morse, P.D. James's Inspector
Adam Dalgliesh, Brother Cadfael, Prime Suspects I through I'm not sure
,Poirot, Miss Marple, Peter Whimsey, and Le Carre's Smiley's People (one
we can see over and over).
Some of the British Comedy rerun go back to bell bottoms, but there still
funny amd we don't seem to tire of them. "Last of the Wine","Open all
Hours", "Good Neighbors", "Waiting for God", "One foot in the Grave",
"Keeping up Appearances", Dad's Army, "The Vicar of
We-can't-remember-where"---they've given us a lot of fun. With Cable, we
can four PBS stations and laugh almost every night.
Please keep that wonderful humor and frequent sightings of Lagondas,
MGTCs, and Jaguar Mark IIs heading our way.
