Hi Bob,
I don't know why they spec 600 rpm. Maybe at the time they were built
the gasoline was so different that they could be made to idle slower,
maybe it was that the compression was lower before the heads got trimmed
a couple of times.....
Perhaps 600 is spark-plug-out rpm on the starter?
