Let's see. The original question was whether the fenders will
fit both a 1970 MGB and a 1976 MGB. If you are referring to the front
fenders, the answer is no. The rubber bumper fenders from 74 1/2, and
up, are different from EITHER type of chrome bumper front fenders. The
difference in chrome bumper fenders is mostly in the turn signal/parking
light location. The change occurred in late '68 for the '69 model year
whereby the above mention light deal was placed closer to the grill. I'm
here to tell you that you can have one of each on a car that is ready to
paint before a friend says "Saaaaay, did you know that you have two
different front fenders??"
The part about having to pound on the fenders is part of the inner fender
and not the outer fender.
Moving right along to the rear fender question and the answer is
much the same. The '62 through '74 fenders (chrome bumper) are all the
same. '74 1/2 and up (rubber bumper) are all the same. The '70 split
bumper, while very neat, uses the same fenders as the rest of the chrome
bumper cars. This is the first year of the side marker lights on the
little plinth, I think.
One little caveat before the burning email begins: There are
differences in most every model. Other changes were the use of side
reflectors, factory logo, clearance lights, etc. I am of the opinion
that there were never any two of these cars that were alike.
Oh yeah--the GT fenders were completely different but that's
another story.
