Well, I didn't mention it at the time as it didn't seem relevant but the
garage was owned and run by Asians. Come to think of it, 'Brit' is
probably still correct. When I was a lad my Mum used to tell me "If
ever anyone asks you what nationality you are, don't say 'British', say
'English'". However, legally speaking I was born in 'England and
Wales', which together with Scotland makes up Great Britain, and with
Northern Ireland makes the United Kingdom. Methinks our civil servants
didn't have enough real work to do.
