Are your float needles in need of replacement (or your float(s)),
or does your float level need adjusted?
As far as how it gets by the pistons, I don't know. I assume your
rings may be bad if it happens quickly. I defer to the mechanics on the
list however.

I've got a filter 'socket' for my bike. It grips the flat parts
at the top of the filter and has a socket for mounting on a socket wrench.
With an extension, it's alot easier to get into the cramped space between
my exhaust. I've seen similar wrenches for cars, and I bet it'd work
great for you. You don't have to worry quite as much about busting a
knuckle on your alternator with an extension.
