So there I was minding my own business when my father calls to ask if I
ever sold my '74 B. "No, got a few offers, but couldn't bear to go
through with the sale..." So he asks if I want to trade my car for his
car and $1,500; seems he's getting tired of the restorations and just
wants something to drive.
His car: '68 B, purchased from DPO who rebuilt the engine (no idea as to
the quality of the rebuild; looks good from the outside...). All parts
seem to be there, wire wheels, and new interior (which I installe during
a visit last year). My dad had the bodyshell professionally painted BRG;
looks really nice.
My car: '74 B, received as a wedding gift from my father, runs great
(after I sunk about $1,500 into it) but needs a new paint job and could
use an interior. No rust, Rostyles, engine runs great but has 105k miles
and has never been rebuilt.
This was NOT an easy decision. My car has run perfectly for 2 1/2 years
now; do I want to go back to the restoration stage? (Especially as I've
only got a Cover-It fabric garage!) In the end, I decided to go for it.
Probably be another 2 years before I'm on the road again, and I'm sure
I'll be asking the list alot of questions (I've mostly been lurking for
the last year). I'm not deluding myself; I'm sure it will cost twice
what I expect and take three times as long. Nonetheless, I'm excited
about beginning a new project - guess the best of all worlds is to have
one running and one being restored - wish I had the money and space.
Just felt like telling someone...
