Here's two quick questions, an dI'll keep them short, because I have a
tendency to make these questions REALLY long and drawn out....
1st Question- The starter in my 74 1/2 BGT is fairly unreliable, not
starting maybe every 2 or 3 starts, and, it must have known the cop was still
sitting there after my $146 speeding ticket, so Lucas cursed me and figured
he'd make the cop laugh a bit by not starting for 3 minutes, but anyways...
Is it possible the starter is having a tough time turning over my engine
due to mods.? --> 2 Litres, Lotus Pistons, and other things...the
compression is probably a lot higher now, should I consider a more powerful
starter, and if so, what kind??
2nd Question- My father and I are buying a '61 Austin Mini, with a 1320
cc engine, Reese 649 Rally cam, high performance head etc etc...Now, the
engine was bored out, from 1275 to 1320, and those parts were installed, the
car was driven about 150 mi. with the new engine, and rallied a little bit,
should I be concerned with the condition of the cam?? It's been 2-3 years
since it's run.
Can somone give me a sort of step by step process in which to get the car
started, so it won't damage the engine, and other parts. Plugs have been in
it since sitting, no oil in cylinders, oil in car though, as far as fuel
goes, no gas tank connected due to work being done in rear, but, carbs-Twin 1
1/2" SUs, and fuel pump connected. I know the old oil has to go, would
replacing oil take care of turning oil pump to circulate oil?? What shoud I
do with the plugs? WD40?? And how about the pistons?? Shoudl I worry about
anything internal being stuck? If I should need to pull the engine and
overhaul it b/c of it being rebuilt then sitting, I have a 998 w/ a rebuilt
tranny I can put in!! Thanks for your help!!! _-Wiz-_ 74 1/2 BGT '61
