I was infected with the consuming desire to collect and play with old cars
about a year ago, when I saw an Austin Healey, dark green, leather interior
and accessories. I haven't any idea of what model it was, but I was
incredibly smitten with the British style. No one in my family, on either
side, seems to put much value on sports cars -- although I think that I have
positively influenced my 3 younger siblings, who have also fallen in love
with my car.
I think that the reason I like to work on the car, besides the inherent
rewards, falls into a category of "collecting awe." While sitting in my
Italian conversation class and discussing hobbies, I stated:
"Mi piace lavorare nella mia macchina, una MG."
[I like to work on my car, an MG]
Many "wow's" echoed through the class, and the males were rather impressed.
It was fun.

Salutation
----Ezra Pound
O generation of the thoroughly smug
and thoroughly uncomfortable,
I have seen fishermen picnicking in the sun,
I have seen them with untidy families,
I have seen their smiles full of teeth
and heard ungainly laughter.
And I am happier than you are,
And they are happier than I am;
And the fish swim in the lake
and do not even own clothing.
