Have to chime in here and agree with the supporters of UPS strikers. Back in
the 70s my position would be reversed as unions were sucking the life blood
out of the American work ethic. However, unions have come a long way and are,
by and large, now part of the solution. UPS workers should be able to feel
secure that if they are doing a good job that they will not be canned for
profit reasons (e.g., hire 2 part timers at a lower wage with no benefits to
replace one full timer with benefits -or- subcontract out the work = big
addition to profit margin). Now, I ain't no commie, never been in a union and
I don't have any parts for my lbc being shipped presently, but in my book,
companies should and do have a responsibility to be fair to their workers who
have devoted years to the company. They also have an equal responsibility to
shareholders and to turn a profit. In this case I think UPS is motivated by
profits and are forgetting that they have become as big as they are because of
the workers who are now on strike!!!! It's kind of like trying to dump your
wife or girlfriend after they put you through school because they want to
spend some of the money you are now earning at that great job you have
(because of your education). Fair is fair and that's that!!!!!!!!
Ever been downsized??? Wall Street loves it but you probably thought it
sucked.
Beside when all is said and done 50k a year is not living high on the
hog!!!!!!!
Remember, unions only came into existence because of poor management!!!!!
