Then we'll have to start writing letters to the Governor.

I got these two messages recently. The first from Senator Kopp to whom I
had asked the question as to wheather the bill contained a rumored provision
to trap any and all cars using snifters at on ramps....here is his reply:

From: Senator.Kopp@SEN.CA.GOV (Office SC08)
To: TATERRY <TATERRY@AOL.COM>

        Dear Mr. Sanders:

Thanks for your letter of July 15, 1997 via the Internet
        regarding Senate Bill 42.

SB 42 does not contain the provision you quoted. The
bill merely exempts all vehicles 25 model years old and older
from the biennial and transfer of ownership smog check
        requirements.

                                Sincerely yours,

                                QUENTIN L. KOPP

The second message is from Carol Midgen a SF freshman in the legislature whom
I had asked to support the bill:

Dear Terry,

Thanks for the kind note. I appreciate hearing about your view in
support of Senate Bill 42. The bill was recently the subject of a
hearing before the Assembly Committee on Appropriations on July 16, and
will be voted on by the committee in late August. Contrary to some
postings I have read, I have not taken a position in opposition to the
bill, nor is the bill dead. The bill, along with hundreds of other
legislative proposals, is continuing through the legislative process. I
am continuing to study many aspects of the Smog Check 2 program quite
extensively, including the proposal included within Senate Bill 42. I
certainly appreciate hearing your insights on the need for the SB 42, as
I will review your note (along with many others I've received) before
next month's vote.

Sincerely,

Assemblywoman Carole Migden

So there you have it....now its up to you guys (in California) to keep the
pressure up on the legislature and the Governor.....
Tnx,
Terry (who has no LBC's who need to be smogged anyway!)
