According to an article by Ron Bender NAMGAR "The MGA starter is larger.
You must use the MGA one or modify the floor to fit the B unit. With 3
main MGB engine and MGA gear box, use the B clutch with the plate that
will fit your input shaft. WithMGB gearbox remove the rear
extensionhousing and replace with the MGA extension as the B mounts
differently. The MGA speedometer drive gear must also be fitted. With 5
main MGB the above apply plus the pilot bushing in the crankshaft is
larger and a bushing must be made to fit the MGA input shaft.
  There is also a longer article by Bruce Nichols in "A-ANTICS TECH TIPS"
but it's to long to type out .If you need more info email me and I'll see
