I have dealt with both a DGV and HIF6's on a '73. In my judgement,
the HIF's are capable of more instantaneous power, but I had a fair
amount of difficulty getting them to run right. I have had a buttload
of experience with SU carbies in general, as they are on my TD, my
Aston Martin and a bunch of other cars I have worked on. Even after
a thorough rebuilding I was not real happy with the way the HIF's
worked. I tried a DGV (manual choke, Pierce manifold). It went
on in about an hour. That same day an acquaintance of the gentler
pursuasion, who cares to understand little about cars and who did not
know of the change, commented that the car seemed to run ever so much
more smoothly. I tended to agree. It didn't have quite the
off-the-line quickness, but seemed more refined.
I have left the DGV on the car. It's been there going on three years
and I see it every once in a while when I open the hood to change the
oil.
YMMV, this advice worth every penny paid for it.
