Ah, Prewarriors,
Last weekend I fulfilled a long held desire to
visit the VSCC meeting at Shelsley Walsh=2E, the oldest motor racing venue=20=
in
the world, in continuous use=2E I was not dissappointed=2E The paddock was
crowded, as always at any VSCC "do", with delectable machinery=2E The paddo=
ck
consists of rows of wooden enclosures with a tin roof just as seen on
period photographs=2E The Castrol R haze hung in the summer air and the
ground shook to the semi-silenced roars of Riley's, MG's, Sunbeams and all
the myriad others=2E
We made our way to the start and I spotted the commemorative plaque to
Raymond Mays=2E As the air shimmered in front of the cars leaving the start=
I
really felt that it could just as well have been 60 years ago=2E
Mixing all this atmosphere (only equalled by Prescott) with the pleasure of
meeting old and new friends made it a pleasurable day indeed=2E We even
started a playgroup, didn't we David?
I really must recommend a visit to anyone coming over from the States or
elsewhere later this year or next=2E
Yours promotionally, JH
