Dan was right! The bridge circuit in any alternator is always working
and creating a drain on the electrical system. If I will not be driving
my car for a couple weeks I always pull the connector from the alternator
to save the battery.

With the plug removed from the alternator there should be zero current
with the key in the off position, headlight switch off and all fuses in
place.
