I know this practice is fairly common with American V-8's but don't
know of any examples with MGBs that supposedly leak just fine with
one gasket. I would stick the two together with a spray adhesive,
like that copper head gasket sealant, and make sure you re-torque
after a few hundred miles.
It may not be as common even on fords and chevys now that more
companies are making different-thickness gaskets. I saw an ad
yesterday for Fel-pro gaskets. They now manufacture an extra-thin,
with a thickness of .015, and an extra-thick that's .051. I wish MGs
had the same array of parts as small-block chevys! We'd have a dozen
superchargers to choose from, more suspension options than you can
shake a stick at, and enough chrome engine dress-up goodies to blind
Ray Charles. (Not that we'd WANT them all, but choice is good.)
