i recently purchased a '73 roadster that had been sitting (unused except
by various critters--i have found species of bugs that are otherworldly,
along with a nice rats nest snuggled under the spare tire in the boot)
in the deep country of NC for at least two years. the body is in great
shape, the only rust being in that spot between the passenger door and
rear wheel well (& of course the floor pans...). The motor is in great
shape as well, a new coil, points, and fuel pump the only parts that were
needed to get it cranked.
needless to say, the two-+ years of storage didn't do the misc. rubber
parts any good. my questions involve:
brake hoses--is it better to go with original rubber, or invest in
the braided stainless steel?
a-arm bushings-- V8 upgrade, polyurethene, or rubber?
all other front suspension/steering bushings-- is it better to try
and tackle a major suspension rebuild or invest in a new
set of spindles?
any suggestions would be appreciated. also, anyone who has restored an
mgb that has sat for an extended period and has any insights into
problems i may encounter as a result of this extended storage--please
feel free to give any advice. thanks!
