I followed this thread, and overall, its been very informative. But I have
been wondering about this frequent mention of a 50 gap. The book suggests,
at least for the earlier Bs, a gap of 0.24-0.26 inches. This is the Haynes
manual, my official MG bible that I have used for about twenty years (the
pages are even turning yellow).
I understand California uses larger gap settings for spark plugs. Is this
why the 50 figure was mentioned? Or are there performance issues with a
larger electrode opening?
As far as spark plugs go, I pretty much have stayed with Champions but
occassionally I get autolites, depending on which is on sale. I found the
Bosch too expensive and at best perform as well as a Champion. I have also
tried the NGK brand - they also performed as good as a Champion at twice
the price.
However, I've actually seen Lucas spark plugs so I've been very curious as
to how they stack up if anyone has used them.
