Does anyone have a late model MGB starter in their junk pile? I was
wondering if someone would compare the numbers with the black, greasy,
boat anchor that came out of my 'C':
The side of the winding housing has the following ID:
LUCAS
25604B 15-69
M418G 12V
>From looking at the manuals, the C/GT starter appears to have a
different drive snout so that the solenoid can stay nestled up in the
oil spray rather than hanging down in the road grit. Other than that,
they appear to share some parts -- for instance, the solenoids are
identical.
The drive snouts would interchange if they are the same starters.
VB lists a 'B' starter at $175.95
the 'C' starter goes for $247.45
But the local rebuilders will do either for $60.
