Whoever wrote that wavering needles can be caused by stiff odometer mechanisms
was
spot on in my case. My odometer recently went from 20999 to 21000 at the same
time as the trip went from 199 to 200. Speedo started swinging from 50 to 80
instead of its usual +-5mph, then settled back down again after the above
change
was completed. I'd already tried cleaning and oiling the cable - no
improvement.
