Hi Jerry,
There's a tech article on the Scions of Lucas web site on SU Fuel pumps. =
I think the net address http://www.team.net/sol/tech/supump.html will =
take you right to it. I will mention that I know about as much about =
computers as I do about diodes. About ( )< that much.
The article does say that the diode comes included in a major repair =
kit.
Good luck=20
John

Subject: Diodes???
I recall seeing postings in the past about SU fuel pumps of a more =
recent=20
manufacture having a diode connected across the contacts to keep them =
from=20
arcing and burning. My '67 MGB GT is currently fitted with one of JCW's =
after-market fuel pumps, but I also have rescued junk yard SU fuel pump =
from=20
a dear departed MGB which I have always intended to rebuild "someday." =
It does=20
not, alas, appear to have the previously mentioned diode, or at least I =
can't=20
find one.
Can I go down to my Neighborhood Radio Shack, buy a diode of the =
appropriate=20
size, and solder it into the fuel pump's circuit at some appropriate =
point,=20
and replicate the functionality of the factory version? I know nothing =
about=20
electronics. My NRS salesperson told me that a diode was essentially a =
one-way=20
valve which would pass current in one direction, but not the reverse. He =
did not=20
have a clue how this would keep the contact points from burning. Can =
someone=20
explain to me, IN VERY SIMPLE TERMS, how this works? What size (rating, =
or=20
whatever) diode do I need to buy, and exactly where do I solder it on my =
fuel=20
pump's contacts?
Thanks,
Jerry Causey
