Scott and Others,

I have two cars registered as Antiques. The only difference between
Antique and Classic is in the age of the car and classics require
annual inspection and antiques do not. I have a copy of a fact sheet put
out by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles that defines both terms; antique is
25 yrs. or older and classic is defined as a motor vehicle made at least
15 years before 7-30-90, which is when they last amended the law. Keep
in mind that my sheet is dated August 1992.

Also, I have a sheet that the AAA gave me that specifies the pictures
required as four(front, rear, and both sides) unless it is a convertible
where one photo must be of the front with the top up and one from the
back with the top down. I had considered challenging this with my MG-TD
which is registered as a roadster(in PennDOTspeak this means a top is
not required), but due to the nature of the mindless quasi-bureaucrats
at the AAA, I decided not to push my luck.

As far as time of day or night operation, you can operate an antique
vehicle at night if it complies with the normal lighting requirements of
the vehicle code which most MGs would have no problem with.

Scott, you may want to wait a year and register the car as an antique so
you won't be req'd. to go through state inspection. To transfer a
classic registration to antique costs a $15 title fee plus a $50 antique
registration fee.

Phone numbers for the BMV are: Harrisburg - 717-787-3130
                                Philadelphia - 215-698-8100
                                Pittsburgh - 412-565-5670
                                Other - 800-932-4600
                                TDD - 800-228-0676

Hope this helps.
