Greg, I prefer either hard docs, or empirical data when looking at
modifications. I don't have access to an engine dyno at a reasonable
price, so I took the empirical approach.
I needed to run my engine under load, and at a high rate of rpm to
ensure cylinder filling. I have a highway close to home, with a hill
app 2 k long. I get the "B" wound up, and hit the hill Wide Open
Throttle. If it misses, the gap is too large. If it does ok, I open up
the gap, and repeat the process until the engine misses. I then close
the gap about 10-15%, and let it be. So far, Les Gendarmez haven't been
involved with my occasional forays... after all the hwy IS 100 klicks,
and I DO get confused between K and mph.
Why would you use 92 octane gas?? I've tuned my "B" with American
unleaded regular, and never use the higher priced stuff...
BTW, in some US states, there is refinery shortfall on the amount of
premium gas sold, to the tune of about 20%. I don't know about Canada,
I doubt if anyone has bothered to investigate it here. From what I
read, Washington state tax inspectors noticed the "anomally", and
started looking at how much gas was supposed to be premium, vs the
refinery capacity, and it didn't jive.
