I tried this on my '74 (25D dizzy), and didn't get a BIT of movement.
And I have fairly strong lungs (although most of the time they're
BLOWING hot air instead of going the other way...). The unit was a bit
dirty, and did free up some after cleaning, but I still couldn't get any
movement just using my lungs.
So I mounted the dizzy back on the car WITHOUT the vacuum advance
attached. While holding the vacuum can in my hand, I started the motor
and snapped the throttle open and closed. Under these circumstances, the
vacuum advance unit was quite happy to wiggle to and fro, so I was
satisfied (gulp valves can also be checked in this manner).
While you have your dizzy out, remove the baseplate and check for free
movement between the plates. After 23 years of wiggling back and forth,
mine had developed a burr that interfered with the vacuum advance
action. A little Dremeling and light greasing fixed her right up.
