What years are your cars - I understand that the opening changed in 74 but 
don'tt know id this matters 12 V battery-wise.

        I have three MGBs with them installed.  Do not leave the battery 
uncharged during the winter.  Modern high capacity batteries have very 
narrow gaps between the plates.  The narrow gaps get bridged by 
sulphates much easier and internally short.  That's why modern batteries 
 seem to die in a different manner than old style.
