I have a wonderful, intelligent friend whose ex-wife "seemed" to take
interest in all of his interests -- and he had many.

Just for instance...he was a big-time sailor, and he was a major figure in
the chili-cooking world. Before they married, she "adored" sailing, and
wouldn't miss a chili cookoff (although the camping conditions can be a bit
primitive, especially at Terlingua).

AFTER the ceremony, she refused to sail because it mussed her hair or caused
her to break a nail, now and then. She quit going to chili cookoffs because
of the perceived inconvenience. And she was pretty adamant that he give
these things up. Now, she knew his passions before they married. He was a
pretty sharp fellow, and I don't see how he could have missed the "fakery",
except for the fact that she was a tall, attractive blonde? Lust conquers
all?? I dunno. The marriage lasted less than a year, too.

I've seen the very situation you describe in more than just this one
instance. I don't "get it" either!

BTW, this fellow finally married a real princess...wonderful lady. She
doesn't like to sail, either, and encouraged others, including me, to sail
with him, which we did several times a week, either on his sailer or mine.
It gave her some private time, too, which she needed. She loved chili
cookoffs, and worshiped her fella.

Go figure!
