SUBJECT RE>>Rear Axel gear ratios... 11/27/96 9:40 AM
I too have an - as yet uninstalled - 4.3 ratio for my Healley 3000, which I
purchased from Dennis Welch in the UK. While I expect it to give a lot of
torque and low-end acceleration, I'm concerned about 4 things:
o a low top speed (I recall reading about Pat Moss' victorious Healey in the
'61 Spa-Sofia-Liege, in which she used the rear axle from a London Black cab
... 0 - 60 in 5.7 secs, top speed 75 mph!)
o running the revs up to 8000 rpm and beyond on the straights.
o the correct wheel and tire size to use
o what does it do to my optimum shift points?
Does anybody have any practical experience witht hese low gear ratios? I'd
love to hear about it.
Thanks.

Go with the 4.2 for autocross. It will give you better pull out of
corners and let you run at the top of the power curve more often. I have
a 4.3 in the B and would love to find a 4.55. unfortunately the ones I
have found are out of my $ range.
