Is the vacuum system the same on your points distributor
however? That is really my problem, not the points. I can
deal with points.
The problem I have not is that the 1975 engine vacuum
is on the intake manifold, and is intended to drive a
vacuum retard unit on the distributor. This gives spark
retard during idle and coasting and such.
The points distributor I have has vacuum advance however,
so I am getting vacuum ADVANCE at idle and cruising. I
had originally intended to just wire the vacuum line to
ported vacuum (pre-throttle) but my edition of Stromberg
does not have this vacuum tap.
So although my ignition works, the timing is just
bizarre and the advance/retard curves are just awful. If I
convert my original distributor to modern electronic and I
get it working, then I will have proper ignition timing
again.
Check your car and see if it's alright and how it is
done. I didn't think about it too much when I made the
switch, but the car is really finicky off the line so I
thought about it a while and that's why. Coming off idle,
the spark is really advanced and then comes back under
power.
