Consumer Reports completed a test of the brand name oils a few months ago.
The test consisted of evaluating engine wear in NYC taxis for an extended
period of time; I believe it was 6 or 12 months. They found NO DIFFERENCE
in engine wear amongst the 8 or so brands tested. Their recommendation was
buy on price basis as long as it meets SAE specs.

MG Types,
Just would like to confirm the remarks made about Quaker State motor
oils. I have used this oil for the past 10 years in all my cars and have never
as much as had the head off any of them. The daily driver ('84 Volvo 240 TURBO)
the oil pressure has never changed in the 330,000 kms the car had gone and
looking through the oil filler cap, the camshaft looks as clean as the day it
was installed. I imagine the rest of the engine is as clean.
