Joe, I'm new to the list so this may have been covered in the past- it's a
common question. You're so right those old cannister filters are a mess to
change, but more importantly they are badly designed. At shut down the oil
drains out of the filter and back down into the pan, causing prolonged loss
of oil pressure at startup.
Better to change to the hanging "spin-on" type (but I think either will work,
check the catalog).
Your bearings will thank you.
