Does your car have a split rear bumper? If it does, and memory serves me, then
it's a '71. In California there are lots of pull handle '66's, because that's
the year in which they were sold. By that logic, if your car sat on the
dealer's lot for five years, would California call it a '76? Just my 2 cents.

Okay, I'm confused... :)
If my car was MADE in 1971, as the serial # plate says, should I refer to it
as a '71, or a '72?? My local MG guy insists on calling the car a '72, as
that was the year it was SOLD in. Which is the proper terminology? I
noticed that the pictures in the front of the Haynes manual seem to refer to
a car's year by the manufacture date...
