You've probaby already had several responses on this, I've been off line for
a while.  If so I apologize for taking up bandwidth.

Any good plating shop can easily remove all the plating from any part.  The
process is a simple reversal of electroplating.  The polarity of the circuit
is reversed and the chrome is leached from the part into suspension in the
electrolyte.  This is routinely done before replating for show quality chrome.
