Go back to Home depo and buy the more expensive model which does not have a
flat face to it. It has a little nib which looks similar to a greasing nib.
It will fit inside the snap. The model I got also has a rotating head to get
into hard to reach places. Under $20.

Seems to me, all the snaps I replaced on the body went on with
stainless sheet-metal screws or small, fine-thread,
phillips-head bolts. For which I went to the locak hardware
and got stainless. I know that's what I used for the
tonneau/top snaps on the rear deck.
Maybe you can regrind the taper on the rivet-tool nipple?
