Hey folks, in about 5 or 6 months I am going to begin the restoration of my
64 Midget--- I basically have it down to the body shell and had the body
shell dipped, but now need some advice about some sections of the
restoration......
1)Suspension: does anyone know of a relatively clean, inexpensive front
suspension besides stock? I would like to be able to adjust camber and
shock settings (ride height and castor would also be great bonuses). I
have tried to design in my head a double A-arm setup with coil over shocks,
but am not sure how to create something like that, or where to find specs
on shocks... any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I plan to run 14"
panasports, so I need it to ride about stock height but with much heaver
springs....?! Bad idea? How about the rear suspension? Anyone know a way
to convert the rear to coil over? I can't afford Huffaker but if anyone
knows of anyone else who has done this before?
2)Order of attack-- should I trailer the car to the painter right off the
bat? Should I assemble the suspension first? Or have them prime and paint
the underbody, then put it together and go back to have them paint the
final job?
3)Bonnet-- I would like to get a fiberglass bonnet-- anyone done this
before? I would like to have it fold forward so I need ideas on
mounting...
4)Brakes-- I want to get the Mini Mania big brake setup- anyone try this
yet? Would it be wise to have on a street car? How about the pads-- do
they ruin the wheels with dust? Should I get a brake servo?
5)Differential-- I will be using this for street/autox, so can anyone
recomment a limited slip-- i have heard of the clutch type and the quaife-
Im tempted to go with the quaife but really don't have a clue which is
better than the other--?
Any suggestions that you can give which will make this easiest for me
to complete would be greatly appreciated-- anyone who has done this sort of
thing before that can offer advice in the restoration process would be of
great help-- I will undoubtedly need some help in the future.... thanks in
advance
