Register VS Club VS Association

There's been a lot of talk about the AMGBA vs the NAMGBR.
Could someone explain the differences between the MG
organizations? I recently joined the NEMGTR and the
AMGBA. Some outfits call themselves registers, some
associations. Are they all basically just clubs? Are the local
affiliates where the action is?
