With the lights off and no accessories on, the ammeter on my TD reads a slight
discharge at idle. Yet the generator will put out +25 amps when reved-up. I
tried this with the field, armature, and ammeter input all tied together, so
this rules out any problem with the voltage regulator.
Is it normal to have a small discharge at idle? I seem to remember that back
in the generator days, you got a small charge even at idle unless the lights
were on.
I am using one of those newfangled low maintenance batteries. I've heared that
they need a slightly higher charging voltage. Could this be the problem?
Before you ask, I did check the fan belt tension. Any help will be appreciated.
