Well no it doesn't. It should come on when the ignition circuit is live but the 
engine 
isn't running - ie just when you're starting up. It doesn't ever come on at all 
if you
unplug its power feed from the alternator.  I should have noticed, but I've 
been a bit 
preoccupied working out where to mount a voltmeter and ammeter.

jfischer@supercollider.com (James Fischer) suggests that a voltmeter and 
ammeter would
help; well, they're waiting to go in anytime now.  Does anyone have an ammeter 
in a midget
with alternator ? How big a range should I need. I've picked up a +30 / -30 amp 
ammeter.
Will this be enough, or will it melt at some inconvenient point ?
