Problem: Oil dripping out of exhaust pipe

I can't explain the tach behavior but the problem seems to behave as a fuel
problem. I have seen similar symptoms with trash near the tank fuel pickup.
 Although I would be reluctant to try the propane torch method you should be
able to isolate the fuel system before the carburators to see if it makes a
difference.  You could try connecting to a friend's MG using a long piece of
fuel hose.  Good Luck!
