Actually, there are two generally accepted methods. The first, and most
often found in MG Specialist garages is, is to take a chisel and hammer.
Gently notch the nut and then chisel it until it starts to work around. By
the way, new nuts are only a few dollars from our buddies at MOSS, INC.
The second method, which I have used on my cars, involved buying a special
octagon socket from a guy in Michigan that advertises in NAMGAR MGA
newsletter, British Car Magazine, etc. I don't have his name with me, but
he puts together "authentic British tool kits" too. Then it's a matter of
getting a long enough pry bar for leverage.
PS: Getting the wheel bearings out is a bear, too!!!
