                      Does that '63 have one of those under-dash-it-looks-
       like-a-flasher-relay voltage regulators, like the later negative 
       ground/alternator cars have? This would cause your fuel gauge to go 
       wacko, in the later cars like mine, it also causes the temp gauge to 
       go equally loopy, in unison. Sort of like watching the Pips when 
       Gladys Knight was singing. But you've a mechanical temp gauge, so you 
       just have it solo. Don't let it get solo you have to walk (insert rim-
       shot here). If you don't have a regulator, ummmmmm....... I'll scratch 
       my head and say red backwards.
