Good point! No way to tell from the RS website how high these read.
(Although an outdoor thermometer that didn't go a bit over 100 degrees F would
be
pretty useless...)
Before I had a working temp gauge in the MGB I used nylon wire-ties to attach
one of those pocket meat thermometers to the upper radiator hose to make sure
it was the gauge and not the engine that was malfunctioning. One of those
tiny thermometers could easily be attached to the underside of the hood.
Of course, if you already have one of those, it is the more economical
solution!
