Just ran across a '67 MGBGT with a Chevy Corvette 265 V8, stroked to
302, and a Corvair transaxle mounted in the rear. The car was built by
a NASA engineer in the early '70s to compete against the Cobras.
Apparently he built a subframe for the transaxle that ties in to a roll
cage inside the car and of course this gives the car an independent rear
suspension. But you cant tell from the outside that it is anything
other than a normal MGBGT except for the single large exhaust pipe
exiting the rear (he fabricated inverted headers that dump in to dual
exhaust pipes that go down by the firewall to dual mufflers and then tie
together to a single pipe to clear the gas tank. Does anybody remember
seeing this car?
I can buy it this week (if I make a 620 mile drive to pick it up) for $1,000). The car is solid and rust free, except for some surface rust from sitting putside under a cover. It has always been either up on blocks or up on a trailer so underneath it is rust free. It looks like it is well engineered and put together. Do you guys think that it is worth it? Thanks.
